Pilates exercises are created to strengthen abdominal and back muscles by developing pelvic stability and abdominal control. The mind\/body connection and awareness developed in Pilates will improve your posture and form in all areas of your fitness program.<\/p>\n<p>At our First Coast YMCA branches, we offer a variety of Pilates classes, from Mat Pilates to leveled classes to Pilates Gold!  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Pilates classes have numerous benefits for all levels!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shape and tone all major muscle groups<\/li>\n<li>Increase core strength<\/li>\n<li>Increase aerobic and cardiovascular endurance<\/li>\n<li>Improve bone health<\/li>\n<li>Increase flexibility and range of motion<\/li>\n<li>Improve alignment, balance, and stability<\/li>\n<li>Improve confidence and body awareness<\/li>\n<li>Improve coordination and mental focus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tips and Preparation<\/h3>\n<p><strong>For the best possible experience, new Pilates class participants are encouraged to arrive to class early to meet the instructor and have time to gather and set up equipment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Y will provide all equipment needed for this class.  Please bring your own workout mat.  We suggest arriving early to set up your mat.<\/li>\n<li>Come to class dressed and ready to move your body.  Wear functional, flexible workout clothing made of breathable material to allow air flow.<\/li>\n<li>These classes are typically performed in bare or sock feet.<\/li>\n<li>Please bring water and a sweat towel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*Not all classes are offered at all locations.
